Philadelphia 76ers rookie Ben Simmons has been compared to a variety of players. Often times, it’s Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James, who’s become the go-to basis of Simmons’ prototype. But at least for one scout, Simmons’ style of play can also be compared to that of former NBA player Antawn Jamison’s, per Sean Deveney of Sporting News.

“He has a little Antawn Jamison in his game, where he is comfortable taking shots that are a little funky, a little bit of a throwback to Oscar Robertson or Elgin Baylor. He is going to have to figure out how to shoot 16-footers, how to shoot 3s, we all know that.

The unnamed scout, however, was basing his comparison on a single play from the Sixers’ road game against the Boston Celtics on Nov. 30 in which Simmons made a spin move in the paint while being guarded by Jaylen Brown before scoring on a hook shot. It’s not as finesse-looking as that of other players’, but like what the scout mentioned, Simmons seemed comfortable in executing that type of maneuvers and shots.

Throughout his 15-year career in the NBA, Jamison had always found a score. He’s a smoother operator in the perimeter than Simmons, but what the scout was pointing was to that of the rookie’s focus on getting the bucket whenever he wants akin to the former North Carolina Tar Heels star’s concentration in making a basket regardless of the aesthetics at times.

Like most observers, the scout also pointed out to Simmons’ lack of activity from the 3-point area, which is something the former No. 1 overall pick has to learn. Simmons has taken just 2.5 percent of his total shots this season from behind the arc.
