Sega and Paramount Pictures have recently revealed the final trailer for their upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie, which has already shown so much promise after the very positive reception of the first Sonic movie that was released back in 2020.

In this trailer, it focuses on Sonic (voiced acted by Ben Schwartz) learning how to control his powers more effectively, while battling up against a more powerful Dr. Robotnik (played by Jim Carrey) who has returned back to planet Earth, now wielding the power of Master Emerald to create even more powerful robots. In order to keep Sonic in check, Dr. Robotnik manages to team up with the powerful Echidna warrior, Knuckles (voiced acted by Idris Elba) who is able to keep up with Sonic's speed while overpowering him with amazing strength.

Despite being seemingly outmatched, Sonic will have to call upon the help of his friends, Tom (played by James Marsden from the first Sonic movie), along with his own sidekick, Tails (played by the original voice actor, Colleen O'Shaughnessey) in order to find the strength to become the true hero that he was meant to be.

The fan reception to the new Sonic the Hedgehog 2 trailer has been overwhelmingly positive, as many fans have stated that Sega and Paramount Pictures managed to capture to spirit and essence of the Sonic video games incredibly well. Jim Carrey's performance as Dr. Robotnik from the 2022 movie has won over many fans and getting to see him dressed in a costume that more closely resembles the Dr. Robotnik from the video games has received a ton of praise from Sonic fans all over.

Other fans have gone on to mention that the casting of Idris Elba as Knuckles was an excellent choice, as he manages to portray the character as a serious villain type that hasn't been seen since the original Sonic games featuring Knuckles, and hearing Colleen O'Shaughnessey being able to reprise her role as Tails has received plenty of praise, as well.

Overall, the movie seems to have so much love and care put into it, causing many to believe that the trend of badly made video game movie adaptations may be coming to an end. A very bold statement, sure, but with a handful of examples such as Detective Pikachu or Mortal Kombat (2021), there may be some truth to it.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 premieres in theatres on April 8th, 2022.
