The Duke’s Mayo Bowl took place on Thursday as the college football bowl season continues. In hilarious tradition, the winner of this particular bowl game has their head coach receive a mayo bath. With the South Carolina Gamecocks winning, head coach Shane Beamer became the lucky man to be covered in the delicious (or disgusting) condiment.

It’s a college football tradition unlike any other. Typically the head coach is doused with Gatorade. Instead, Beamer takes on gallons of mayonnaise after leading South Carolina to a big win on Thursday. The SEC Network provides a quick look into the hilarious may bath.

That’s quite the mess, but Shane Beamer doesn’t seem to mind. According to For the Win, the South Carolina head coach had the perfect reaction for his mayo bath.

“Mayonnaise has never felt so good,” Beamer told ESPN after getting covered in mayo.

Regardless of your personal opinion on mayonnaise, Shane Beamer and the South Carolina Gamecocks couldn’t be more happy about this moment. Although this wasn’t for a National Championship, winning a bowl game comes with its own perks.

The Gamecocks will receive some money, which the school can use for whatever they need. Additionally, winning any bowl game helps with recruiting, as South Carolina can now add another trophy to their collection. Although the mayo bath is a silly stunt, it brings many college football fans together with fun.

South Carolina is the first SEC team to win a bowl game this season. With the Alabama Crimson Tide and Georgia Bulldogs in the College Football Playoffs, there’s a good chance an SEC team takes home the national title. For now, the Gamecocks will be celebrating a big win before preparing for the offseason.
