Gregg Popovich's future with the San Antonio Spurs remains clouded in mystery, but he doesn't want to talk about it right after they lost a heartbreaking play-in game against the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Spurs have been officially eliminated from play-in contention after they succumbed to the Pelicans, 113-103, in their showdown on Wednesday. Naturally, one of the biggest questions that everyone has is Pop's plan for the 2022-23 season and beyond.

Unfortunately for the reporters and the fans waiting for his official announcement, Popovich was in no mood to answer such question. After all, they just got off a painful defeat, and so the last thing in his mind or he wants to talk about is his future. He's just that kind of coach, anyway–one that focuses on the players and the moment.

“That question's inappropriate,” the Spurs tactician responded.

For what it's worth, such response is not new from Gregg Popovich, and the media should have known better.

But then again, his future with the Spurs will surely be a hot topic in the offseason as the team continues the development of its young core. While Coach Pop has not given any indication that he's retiring, there is growing belief that it could be his final year and that the San Antonio franchise are already searching for his replacement.

Of course if and when Popovich decides to retire, he'll do it his way: without fanfare and perhaps just a short statement that he's done.
