Kawhi Leonard built his reputation as one of the most dynamic players in the league. The two-time Defensive of the Year award recipient and the winner of the 2014 Finals MVP award, Leonard has been revered as the best two-way player in the league.

This season, however, Leonard has missed much of the regular season with a variety of injuries. Since the Western Conference Finals, injury problems has plagued Leonard's career. This has caused the Spurs to stumble this year, but the good news is that Leonard might actually return as early as Thursday, according to a report by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

ESPN's Lisa Salters is reporting that San Antonio's Kawhi Leonard could return as early as Thursday's game against New Orleans. League sources tell me that barring a setback, Thursday vs. Pels is indeed the targeted return of Leonard to the lineup.

Leonard's return will be instrumental for the Spurs. As of right now, the Spurs aren't built to pursue a deep postseason run. If the Spurs can get Leonard back healthy, they will suddenly transform into championship contenders. The Spurs are currently fifth in the Western Conference, which is a far cry from where they were last season. The Spurs' goal this season should be to gain a top spot and secure homecourt advantage in the playoffs. If the Spurs can do all of the little work until Leonard returns healthy, they will be in a great position to upset a few teams.

The Spurs' championship aspirations lie in Leonard's hands. Therefore, it's good news that he can return early and potentially help his team in the long run.
