Joe Haden has established himself as a respected defensive back in the NFL. And the Pittsburgh Steelers are working to extend the corner's time with the team.

Joe Rutter of Trib Live reports that the nine-year veteran, who played most of his career with the Cleveland Browns, will be eating a good $11.9 million out of the salary cap unless a new deal is worked out.

Haden shared that he has been talking with the team behind-the-scenes to find the right deal that both parties are comfortable with. There are only a few days before the season begins, but the former Florida Gator sounds confident that both parties will come into an agreement:

“We’re still working,” Haden said Tuesday. “It’s been a long process. I’m still optimistic, still hoping that everything goes down, but time is ticking. We’ve got a couple days, and we’ll figure it out.”

The situation between the two parties isn't as concerning as the current contract confusion happening between the Cowboys and Ezekiel Elliot. However, it's not an understatement for them to put importance in extending Haden's stay in Pitt.

Haden started 15 games as the left corner in 2018. In those games, he made two interceptions, 12 pass deflections, forced one fumble, and completed 51 solo tackles. He may not be as productive as his 2013-2014 self, but he is still a quality player that the Steelers should look to keep.

Moreover, the AFC North is looking especially treacherous for them. They lost an important attacking weapon in Antonio Brown, the Ravens are still a dangerous outfit, and the Browns are building something terrifying.

It is in their best interests to keep as many defensive talents on their roster as possible.
