Just one year ago, Chris Boswell of the Pittsburgh Steelers concluded the 2018 season as one of the most inaccurate kickers in football.

Chris Boswell had the worst kicking percentage of any kicker with at least 20 field goal attempts in 2018, and he also led the NFL in total misses.

But the story was different in 2019. Chris Boswell converted 29-of-31 field goals and made all 28 of his extra-point attempts, tying Jacksonville Jaguars kicker Josh Lambo for the fewest misses in football:

This marks a historic turnaround for the fifth-year veteran. Chris Boswell reclaimed his spot as the top placekicker in Pittsburgh (via Alex Kozora of Steelers Depot):

Chris Boswell missed only two kicks, field goals and extra points, all season long. That tied for the fewest in the NFL, matching Jacksonville’s Josh Lambo.

That comes off a 2018 campaign where no kicker missed as many as Boz (12).

That makes it for one of biggest turnarounds in recent football history. Since 2000, of the 27 kickers who converted <70% of their attempts (minimum 15), only Kai Forbath had higher rate the following season. Boswell jumped from 65% to 93.3%.

Chris Boswell converted 9-of-10 tries from 40 yards or longer, and he made one of his two attempts from at least 50 yards. This is a stark contrast to 2018, when Boswell converted on just 5-of-10 tries from at least 40 yards while also missing five extra points.

The 28-year-old from Fort Worth may not have been selected to the Pro Bowl–as he was in 2017–but his bounce-back was a crucial component to the Steelers' own turnaround after they easily could have folded following the loss of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Chris Boswell authored a notable chapter in this NFL season, not to mention his own career.

The Steelers did not make the playoffs, but that doesn't mean their season was bereft of significant moments in 2019.
