The Steelers don't often spend a ton of money in free agency, but they just made a relatively big acquisition. Pittsburgh is signing cornerback Steven Nelson, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Rapoport reports that it's a three-year, $25.5 million pact.

It's the first real move from the Steelers since free agency opened. Pittsburgh's secondary was shaky at times last season, so this move makes a lot of sense. After losing Antonio Brown, the Steelers need to be aggressive in adding talent to make up for the loss.

Given the amount of money they're paying him, the Steelers almost certainly envision him as their other starting corner opposite Joe Haden. Nelson comes to Pittsburgh from Kansas City, where he spent the first four years of his career. The Chiefs drafted him in the third round back in 2015, and he's gotten better each year.

After not playing much as a rookie, Nelson became a starter in 2016. He missed a lot of the 2017 season with a core muscle injury, but had a great campaign last year. He received strong marks from Pro Football Focus last year, earning PFF's 33rd-best grade among all cornerbacks.

For a number two cornerback he's very good, and this is a nice signing by the Steelers. The Steelers traded away Brown and right tackle Marcus Gilbert, and are set to officially lose Le'Veon Bell in free agency.

So far this offseason had been a story of departures, so it's good to see the Steelers get on the board with an acquisition.

Last year, Nelson had four interceptions and 15 passes defended.
