The Phoenix Suns have made it clear that they prefer to flip Greg Monroe's contract rather than buy him out upon his arrival from Milwaukee. The Suns have already netted Monroe's $17.8 million contract along with a first and second-rounder for estranged point guard Eric Bledsoe, but now look to maximize and leave no money on the table by seeking trade options for the lefty big man.

The Philadelphia 76ers face a similar conundrum, having ostracized center Jahlil Okafor — a player that has raised interest in the Suns front office, as he is six years younger than the 27-year-old Monroe, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Phoenix also has the need to create an open roster spot if they hope to make Mike James their starting point guard for the rest of the season, as he is currently on a two-way contract and can only spend 45 days with his commanding NBA team before going back to the G League.

The Suns have until Dec. 6 to turn James' contract into a full-fledged NBA deal — making it possible if they involve different pieces along with Monroe. The front office has been interested in moving on from most veteran pieces on the team, including Jared Dudley and Tyson Chandler, though the latter could prove detrimental to the Sixers as they've tried to rid themselves of a logjam at center for a while.
