The Phoenix Suns have become a franchise that is in full rebuild mode over the last couple of seasons.
However, the team has seemingly found a young and promising player to build around in third-year guard Devin Booker. According to Scott Bordow of the Arizona Republic, the Suns are expected to offer Booker a lucrative contract extension next summer.
In his brief NBA career, Booker has become the face of the franchise and figures to be a big part of the Suns' future well beyond this season. He is currently averaging career highs with 24.7 points on 44.8 percent shooting from the field and 37.8 percent from beyond the arc with 4.1 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game.
The Suns clearly doesn't want to risk losing their potential star player and main foundation piece. It also gives them a bargaining chip when speaking to free agents in the future that they can play alongside a dynamic budding scorer.
On top of that, general manager Ryan McDonough has already made it clear that Devin Booker will have input in the coaching selection process and roster moves in the future. Ultimately, this could be a step in the right direction toward finally putting together a stable and successful team on the floor.
