The Houston Texans officially hired Lovie Smith to be their new head coach on Monday. Following the announcement of Smith's hiring, former Dolphins head coach Brian Flores' lawyers issued a strong statement on the Texans' hiring of Smith amid the party's ongoing lawsuit against the NFL.

Brian Flores' attorneys issued a statement saying that he is pleased with the Texans' hiring of Lovie Smith, whose appointment to the head coaching position as a black man is something that Flores is currently fighting for.

However, Flores' attorneys also mentioned that the former Dolphins head coach was a finalist for the Texans job, but only lost out on the position to Smith because of his lawsuit against racial inequality.

While Flores may have a hard time ultimately proving that teams such as the New York Giants interviewed him just to satisfy the Rooney Rule, he could have an easier time proving that the Texans didn't offer him the job because of his lawsuit.

After all, the other two candidates who were seriously being considered, former quarterback Josh McCown and Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon, have never been head coaches at the NFL level unlike Flores.

It will be interesting to see what transpires in the next several days after this statement from Brian Flores' attorneys.
