Will Texas A&M's football program keep the momentum from a 52-10 win over New Mexico going when it faces Miami on Saturday?

Aggies quarterback Conner Weigman finished the Sept. 2 win over the Lobos with 236 passing yards and five touchdowns. He tacked on 22 rushing yards on three carries. Running back Amari Daniels led Texas A&M with 51 rushing yards on seven attempts.

Texas A&M will take on the Hurricanes in Hard Rock Stadium on Sept. 9. Miami recently claimed victory over the Miami (OH) RedHawks, taking a 38-3 win at home behind 250 rushing yards from four running backs. Running back Henry Parrish Jr. led the charge with 90 rushing yards and one touchdown on nine carries. Running backs Mark Fletcher Jr. and Donald Chaney Jr. ended the game with one rushing touchdown apiece.

What are some bold predictions for Texas A&M's matchup with Miami on Saturday?

3. Josh DeBerry will have another impressive performance against Miami

DeBerry ended the win over New Mexico with a team-leading 10 tackles. He added on one sack, 1.5 tackles for loss and one pass deflection. He picked off a pass from Lobos quarterback Dylan Hopkins late in the second quarter.

Texas A&M head football coach Jimbo Fisher highlighted how well the former Boston College defensive back can tackle in a Wednesday teleconference.

“I think he is an experienced football player who understands leverage and plays with his eyes really well,” Fisher said, via GigEm247 Texas A&M beat writer Carter Karels. “To tackle really well, you have to put yourself in a position to tackle well. What I mean is keys, reads, getting to spots before the space is created to eliminate as much space out of tackles as you possibly can.

“He also has the mindset. He is a very physical guy. He is a tough guy. He is a competitive guy. So tackling does not bother him even though he is a corner. He does a great job of the experience of playing, of understanding how to put himself in position to make tackles.”

Texas A&M limited Miami quarterback Tyler Van Dyke to 21 completions on 41 pass attempts during a win over the Hurricanes in 2022. The Aggies ended the matchup with eight pass deflections. Defensive backs Tyreek Chappell, Jardin Gilbert and linebacker Edgerrin Cooper each finished with two pass deflections.

2. Evan Stewart, Noah Thomas will record at least 80 receiving yards apiece

Stewart and Thomas led Texas A&M with 115 and 74 receiving yards against New Mexico, respectively. They combined for five of the Aggies six receiving touchdowns.

Thomas, a former four-star recruit in Texas A&M's 2022 recruiting class, earned high praise from Fisher in the spring.

“Noah Thomas was our MVP of spring. He was phenomenal,” Fisher said, via All Aggies. “Evan Stewart is a guy that you can hopefully move around. Moose Muhammad came on and can move around and make unbelievable catches. Ainias has the ability to go in the backfield and do things. The versatility he gives us is great.”

If the two receivers can carry over their impressive performances from the win over the Lobos, they can play an important part in taking a key victory on the road against Miami.

1. Texas A&M will claim a one-score win over Miami

Texas A&M finished their win over New Mexico with 277 passing yards and 134 rushing yards. They completed their win over Miami in 2022 with 140 yards from the air and 124 from the ground.

The Aggies must tap into their running and passing game's potential when they face Miami on Saturday.

“They bring a lot of challenges, not only through the air, but they're big up front,” Miami head coach Mario Cristobal said on Monday, via CanesCounty Publisher Marcus Benjamin. “They're big, they're physical, they're talented, those are athletic guys. They move their feet well. They're heavy-handed. They got a really good run game. They took their shots, so I think that might be a little bit skewed as to their capabilities because they have a very strong run game.

“You watch the way that their…not only their alignment, but their tight ends, the way that they involve them in the run game, and the way their receivers block in the run game as well. They're a very potent offense. They are a challenging bunch, and we're looking forward to it.”
