Defensive end Jadeveon Clowney is set to hit free agency this offseason as an unrestricted free agent. While it's very likely the Seattle Seahawks will resign him, Clowney will be getting a lot of interest from teams if he decides to test free agency. One team that should look into signing him is the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers are projected to have $23.1 million in cap room, according to Over The Cap.

The Seahawks had one of the best defenses in the league allowing only 313 yards per game. Clowney was a big reason for that, although his stats weren't that great. In 13 games, Clowney had three sacks and 16 quarterback hits in 13 games. However, Clowney has been playing through a core injury and he'll need to undergo surgery to repair the injury. But he's only expected to be out between five to six weeks because of the injury.

Clowney Wants to Play for Winning Team

In a recent interview with ESPN, Clowney expressed that he wants to play for a winning team.

“I just want to win, I’m trying to get to the Super Bowl by any means. That’s what I’m looking for: Who’s going to get me there? I ain’t looking to get on no sorry team for no money. That ain’t going to fly. I ain’t gonna put my body through all of that just to lose no 16 games, go home with my check. I’d hate that, so that ain’t what I’m doing. So if I can’t win no Super Bowl, I ain’t going to no team that can’t win.”

The Steelers defense played phenomenal this past season as they were second in the league in takeaways. For the season, the Steelers had 20 interceptions and 18 fumble recoveries. Despite their injuries on the offense, their defense was a key reason why they still managed to remain competitive for a playoff spot.

Veteran Ben Roethlisberger is expected to come back next season. With that in mind, the Steelers will most certainly be in the hunt for the playoffs. Signing Clowney would strengthen their stacked defense and would be a valuable asset for the Steelers next season.

Clowney will also be an X-factor on defense when they play their division games next season. He'll be able to help their defense try to contain Baltimore Ravens dual quarterback Lamar Jackson. Nonetheless, the Steelers defense already played a phenomenal game against the Ravens back in October, sacking Jackson five times.

If the Steelers are somehow able to sign Clowney this offseason, they'll arguably have one of the best defenses heading into next season.
