Chelsea is considering making a move for veteran center back Thiago Silva, hoping he'd be willing to join the Premier League on a free transfer after this season, according to The Telegraph. The Paris Saint-Germain captain has led PSG to a UEFA Champions League Final but will see his contract expire at the end of this campaign.

Thiago Silva is set to depart the French side this summer and Chelsea is among the few clubs with enough funds to net his transfer. Serie A clubs like Fiorentina and former side AC Milan have also been linked with a move for the 35-year-old defender, but a move to the Premier League could present an intriguing option for the Brazil international.

Chelsea is looking for a new central defender in the summer transfer window, as manager Frank Lampard has that position atop his list among his shopping list.

The Blues have also been linked with West Ham defender Declan Rice and Atletico Madrid center-back Jose Gimenez, but Silva, at 35 years old, could be a considerably cheaper option that would allow for the signing of other names in Lampard's list.

Thiago Silva is unlikely to get a long deal, considering his age. His transfer value is $5.28 million, almost nine times less than his peak $44 million value back in 2013, a year after he made the move to PSG. Yet experience and leadership are hard-to-find qualities that Lampard can find with a player of his caliber.
