While Marcus Smart is bragging about helping the Boston Celtics win their last game, Russell Westbrook is taking responsibility for the Oklahoma City Thunder's loss.

In a report by ESPN's Tim Bontemps, the guard said that the team's loss was “on him” for not reacting appropriately.

“In a late game like that, I've just got to take care of the ball. That's on me.”

It's a sentiment that's echoed by Thunder coach Billy Donovan, who thought that Russell Westbrook flubbed what might have been the golden opportunity of the entire game.

“I talked to him before the two free throws and talked about if there was a miss to get him to get it and go quickly, [and] save the timeout. It was a great opportunity. There was a missed shot, everybody was at the free throw line and we've got the fastest guy in the league.”

Russell Westbrook then further flubbed the opportunity when he hit the first free throw to move Oklahoma City to within three before attempting to intentionally miss the second. But he failed to hit the rim, so the ball went back to the Celtics.

It was then that Marcus Smart got fouled and made two free throws to win the game in Boston's favor.

Despite it all, though, Donovan said he knows that, if nothing else, Russell Westbrook would “like to take that play back.”

We're pretty sure, too.

The Oklahoma City Thunder will next take to the court against the Orlando Magic on February 5th at 8:00 p.m. EST.
