The Dallas Mavericks will now go down in NBA preseason history as the first team that Steven Adams hit a three-pointer against. Although this is most certainly a joking matter, it appears as though the Oklahoma City Thunder big man in Adams is quite serious about adding yet another component to his game in 2019-20.

As a result of Tuesday evening's preseason matchup between the Thunder and Mavericks, Adams notably hit the first three-point field goal of his NBA career. However, could this be the first of many?

This could become quite an interest topic of discussion going forward as well. Back in January of this year, Adams actually told Royce Young of ESPN that he had absolutely no intention of shooting threes going forward.

“Points per possession — I get it. I get it. But it’s not a machine. You can’t just throw throw s— in there and the product at the end should be, ‘This, according to our calculation.’ That’s not how it works.”

“There’s other players out there that I’m pretty sure I could beat them in a 3-point contest, other bigs. But they’ll shoot one in a game,” Adams says. “Hey, their coach allows it, that’s cool. I don’t give a s—. Do whatever you gotta do.

With the new-look Thunder definitely in need of some offense, perhaps a change in circumstance and personnel has led Adams to choose a different stance ahead of the 2019-20 campaign. Despite the departure of current Houston Rockets point guard Russell Westbrook, the Thunder still has some pieces in place to compete this time around — Adams included.
