The football world learned about the incident involving New England Patriots running back James White's parents in the midst of the team's game against the Seattle Seahawks. Patriots safety Devin McCourty gave a tribute to his teammate and his family after scoring the first touchdown of the game.

Former Patriots quarterback Tom Brady also penned a message to White and his loved ones via a post on Twitter:

James White's father, Tyrone, died in a car accident on Sunday which happened around 1 p.m. ET in Cooper City, Florida. He primarily served as a captain of the Miami-Dade Police Department. His wife Lisa, was also involved in the incident and remains to be in critical condition. Meanwhile, authorities did not provide additional details on the condition of the third person who was also in the crash.

White and Brady spent six seasons together in New England from 2014 to 2019 and won three Super Bowl titles along the way. He was certainly a favorite target of the quarterback as he hauled in a total of 1,119 rushing yards on 320 receptions and 8 scored touchdowns in his seven-year playing career thus far.

Their Patriots coach in Bill Belichick also offered a message for the running back in the aftermath of the incident. “Our hearts go out to him,” he said. The 28-year old player was listed as inactive ahead of their Week 2 game against the Seahawks. The entire Patriots organization and its players will continue to stand by the side of James White after what was an unthinkable tragedy.
