There is possibly some feeling from fans of being underwhelmed as the Minnesota Twins were radio silent for the most part during an exciting MLB trade deadline that went by this past Tuesday. Even such Twins stars as Byron Buxton and Pablo Lopez would comment on the front office not making huge moves during the time period and what that says about the current state of the ball club.

In a piece by Dan Hayes of The Athletic, he would interview people within Minnesota's organization where there could have been feelings of players being “disheartened” with the lack of moves from the team at the trade deadline. For Buxton, he would take it in a more positive direction saying it “shows how much trust” the Twins have in their current roster.

“That just shows how much trust we’ve got in ourselves and how much trust they’ve got in us,” Buxton said after the team's win Wednesday over the New York Mets, 8-3. “We know we’ve got a wonderful team. Our chemistry is what makes us thrive. We have a lot of fun in here and we can translate it into going outside and bringing the energy in here out there.”

The same tone was taken by Lopez who logged a start Wednesday against the Mets where he struck out seven batters, walked three, allowed two hits, and had two earned runs. In terms of the Twins being inactive at the trade deadline, he would say that while a “boost would have been nice,” the team has “got to do it with what we have” in terms of their long-term goals this season.

“I don’t think there’s a lot of deflating going on,” López said. “A boost would have been nice. Who’s going to say no? You can never have enough pitching, especially if it’s going to be a quality arm. But you might hope for it and not get it. Then it’s up to us, the guys in the clubhouse. We’ve got to do it with what we have.”

Lopez has been on a heater recently as in his last seven starts, he has a 2.86 ERA with 55 strikeouts lowering his overall ERA from 5.63 to 4.65 per Hayes.

“It’s been good the way I’ve been feeling on the mound,” López said via The Athletic. “It feels like myself. That rhythm, a lot of times when you feel out of sync, that translates to pitches not doing what they’re supposed to…It’s been a lot of work, a lot of consistency with routines, feeling good, feeling strong, being healthy, hearing the feedback from every department within the organization.”

Buxton touts the “trust” Minnesota embodies

As for Buxton, he also made an impact on Wednesday's game where he hit a home run which logged his 13th of the season to go along with a .278 batting average and 44 RBIs. Whether the team added or not in the trade deadline, Buxton says it makes their team better that the trust is strong.

“Everybody in here trusts each other,” Buxton said. “That’s what makes it better.”

The Twins are 59-48 on the season which puts them second in the AL Central as they start a three-game series against the Chicago White Sox Friday night.
