The Minnesota Vikings parted ways with offensive coordinator John DeFilippo after an anemic offensive performance in a loss to the Seattle Seahawks two weeks ago.

However, there is apparently more to the story.

According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer gave DeFilippo orders to run the ball more, but DeFilippo did not obey. Whether or not he refused to comply on purpose is unknown, but regardless of what his reasoning was, Zimmer wanted him gone.

If this is true, it doesn't exactly help DeFilippo's prospects for getting another coaching job in the NFL.

Not listening to your boss is not something that organizations like at any level, so DeFilippo will have some explaining to do with other NFL teams if and when he earns any interviews.

Kevin Stefanski has since taken over the offensive play-calling, and Minnesota responded very well in Stefanski's first game, putting forth its best offensive performance of the season on a 41-17 win over the Miami Dolphins last week.

With the victory, the Vikings snapped a two-game losing skid to improve to 7-6-1, maintaining their hold on the second Wild Card spot in the NFC.

Minnesota is looking to make back-to-back playoff appearances for the first time since 2009. Last year, the Vikings made it all the way to the NFC Championship Game before falling to the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Vikes will head on the road to take on the Detroit Lions on Sunday before returning home to play host to the Chicago Bears in the final game of the regular season.
