It has now been exactly 300 days since we last saw James Wiseman in an NBA game for the Golden State Warriors. The 20-year-old has been struggling in his rehab from a major knee injury (and subsequent surgery) that has prevented him from making his season debut for the Dubs this term.
Warriors general manager Bob Myers recently provided an update on the status of their highly-touted big man and unfortunately, there isn't much to unpack here:
Article Continues Below“I think the thing that it is, is more of whether it’s a load amount, maybe it is the minor swelling that says not yet. Similar to when you try to run on a sprained ankle and your body says, not yet,” Myers said, via Shayne Rubin of The Mercury News.
“Basic stuff. I’m sure it’s a lot more complicated than that. When I ask the question, the answer I get is he’s progressing, it’s going well. I asked what you ask, what everyone asks, when? The answer I get is we’ll know in five days. If he keeps progressing, this will be the next step. The next step is one-on-one, two-on-two, scrimmaging. You can’t rush it. I wish we could have answered this a few weeks ago or a month ago, but it is what it is.”
To sum things up, the Warriors still do not have a timetable for Wiseman's return to the lineup. They're saying that he has been progressing, but at this point, this does little to quell the frustration that has been rising within Dub Nation.
For what it's worth, the Warriors are still hoping to get Wiseman back at some point in the season. He's no superstar but he can definitely serve as a nice boost for the squad towards the end of the regular season (hopefully).
The Dubs have been outstanding this season and it is clear that they will be competing for this year's title again. In this respect, there is no denying that Stephen Curry and Co. will need all the help they can get — and this certainly includes the much-awaited return of James Wiseman.
