Kevin Durant of the Golden State Warriors erupted for 25 points in the fourth quarter. This is the highest-scoring quarter of his career at Madison Square Garden.
As observed by Justin Kubatko of StatMuse, Durant eclipsed his former career-best at MSG by two points.
Durant finished with 41 points along with 9 rebounds and 5 assists. More importantly, he helped his team get a 128-100 victory against the New York Knicks. The Warriors have improved to 5-1 to start off the season.
The 30-year-old Durant shot at an impressive 17-for-24 from the field for 70.8 percent. He also drained five 3-pointers and shot 2-for-2 from the foul line.
Throughout the game, the Knicks seemed to have the Warriors' number. The Knicks even led as much as 10 points. But come the fourth and final quarter, Durant's outburst caught the Knicks off guard. The Warriors scored a total of 47 points in the final quarter alone. The Knicks, meanwhile, were held to just 16 points.
And this is usually the story for the Warriors' opponents. They may lead by as much as double figures thru the first three quarters. But with the defending back-to-back champions, no lead is safe, as they always say.
Apart from Durant, the Warriors' usual suspects of Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson logged in double figures in points. Curry had 29 points along with six 3-pointers to his name. Green had 18 points, 4 rebounds, and 6 assists. Thompson had a quiet 12 points.
