Prior to this season, tennis great Roger Federer issued a ping-pong challenge to Golden State Warriors shooting guard Klay Thompson after the latter inquired about the 19-time Grand Slam champion’s table tennis game. It’s been over a month since the two teased sports fans with a possible ping-pong showdown, but so far, no such game has occurred.

Even though the Warriors in a middle of the NBA regular season grind, Thompson is still looking forward to that match to happen sooner than later. Speaking to reporters following the Warriors’ 92-88 loss to the Boston Celtics last Thursday, Thompson was asked whether he’ still excited at the prospect of playing Federer in a ping-pong game, the sweet-shooting two-guard said, with conviction, that he does, per Anthony Slater of The Athletic.

This game would’ve been easy to set up if only both Thompson and Federer weren’t too busy with their day jobs. There’s hope, though.

Federer just got ousted from the Nitto ATP Finals in England, losing to David Goffin in the semifinals, so perhaps the current world No. 2 tennis player could swing by Oakland and wait for Thompson outside Oracle Arena while holding a pair of ping-pong rackets.
