The Boston Celtics came out ready to play in Game 5, starting off the game with a 12-point lead as they took control early. But the Golden State Warriors came back with a haymaker of their own – and then some.

After falling behind early, Stephen Curry and co. ripped off an even bigger run of their own, piling on 21 unanswered points on a vaunted Celtics defense on their own home floor to take a 54-39 lead at halftime.

The 21-0 run is the largest in NBA Finals history over the last half century. Golden State eclipsed the previous record, a 20-0 run, also set by the Warriors in 2019.

The run of that magnitude in a situation with stakes this high just goes to show how much of a championship team the 2021-22 Golden State Warriors are.

They're explosive, capable of erupting for such offensive outbursts. But they're also poised, given that they've been here before and practically own the Western Conference save for the past two seasons. But the perennial champs have awakened from their lengthy slumber.

Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and their renewed supporting cast aren't afraid of the moment. That's why the Warriors are right at the doorstep of another title.
