The Los Angeles Lakers have already had one of the best offseasons of any team in the NBA and free agency has even started yet. Anthony Davis is one of the best players in the league and pairing him with LeBron James is a massive step in the right direction towards getting back into title contention.

Unfortunately, getting a player like Davis is never cheap. Los Angeles ended up shipping out Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart, and a ton of draft compensation. The Lakers traded most of their depth to get Davis and they don't have a lot of cap space left to fill out the rest of their roster.

One major position of need left for L.A. is at the center position. They could show interest in quite a few options, but there is one clear-cut fit that they must target. That player would be Milwaukee Bucks' impending free agent big man Brook Lopez.

Los Angeles let Lopez walk in free agency last offseason after he had a strong season with them. It ended up being a major mistake, but the Lakers can go out and rectify that mistake this offseason.

Lopez is coming off of a massive season with the Bucks. He averaged 12.5 points per game to go along with 4.9 rebounds and 2.2 blocks. In addition to those numbers, he shot 45.2 percent from the floor overall and knocked down 36.5 percent of his three-point attempts.

While there is no concrete knowledge of what kind of money Lopez will be looking for, around $10 million would likely be a good range. Lopez is well worth that price and the Lakers could certainly afford it.

Why Lopez should be the Lakers' top priority

Looking at the fit, there is no player that could fit better alongside Davis and James at the center position. Lopez has shown the ability to play in the post when needed, but his ability to step out and knock down the three would be a huge addition for L.A. It was obvious that they needed more spacing and shooting last year and that is exactly what Lopez brings to the court.

From a rebounding perspective, many have criticized Lopez. With Davis and James on the roster, Lopez would not have to worry about being a glass cleaner. His role would be top spread the floor, help Davis defend the rim, and pick up a rebound when it comes his way.

Defensively, Lopez has become a much better rim protector over the last few years. Davis is one of the elite shot blockers in the NBA and the two bigs playing alongside each other would make things difficult on opposing offenses.

Brook Lopez

Finally, Lopez is an ideal center, which fits what Davis and the Lakers want. Davis is currently slotted in at the center position, but he prefers to play power forward. Los Angeles has to bring in a center that won't run in to Davis all around the court and the two play such different games that they would have no issue.

Los Angeles could look at other options, including DeAndre Jordan, but they aren't going to find a perfect fit. Lopez may not be the guy that powers them back to the NBA Finals, but he is an ideal fit for a team looking for a productive center who can shoot the ball and play a supporting role alongside two superstars.

The Lakers have to strongly consider signing Lopez this offseason. He is affordable, a perfect fit, a great veteran presence, and would help them make the deep postseason push that L.A. wants to make.
