Novak Djokovic wasn't allowed to play in the Australian Open in January because of his refusal to get the COVID-19 vaccine. Luckily for him, there's no vaccine requirement to play at Wimbledon, so he will be allowed to defend his title.

All England Club SEO Sally Bolton just announced the decision, per ESPN's Tom Hamilton:

“The requirements set up do not include mandatory vaccination,” Bolton said at a news conference on Tuesday. “It will not be a condition of entry for the championships this year.”

In addition to playing at Wimbledon in June, Djokovic will be good to go for the French Open at Roland Garros in a month.

Djokovic's inability to play in the Australian Open made for quite the controversy, and it also opened the door for Rafael Nadal to win his 21st Grand Slam event. That pushed Nadal ahead of Djokovic and Roger Federer for the most Grand Slams of all time.

Djokovic will try to tie Nadal up with a French Open victory, and if he succeeds, he will then have the opportunity to pass the Spaniard at Wimbledon. Djokovic has won the event six times, with his first title coming in 2011 and his most recent coming in 2021. He also won in 2014, 2015, 2018 and 2019.

Nadal, of course, is a French Open legend, but Djokovic is also the defending champion of that event. After being deprived of a showdown at the Australian Open, let's hope we get to see these two legends duke it out in these upcoming Grand Slams.
