Bradley Beal's name was in trade rumors for quite some time, with many wondering whether he would ultimately ask out as the Washington Wizards scuffled along in recent seasons. Beal shut most of that that talk up for now by re-signing with the Wizards on a five-year, $251 supermax contract that also features a rare no-trade clause.

Friday, Beal spoke to the media after signing that extension. The Wizards star expressed his loyalty to the franchise and took a jab at superteams in the process:

This sentiment should fire up Wizards fans, though some are certainly questioning the need to give Beal that no-trade clause. While the star shooting guard wants to play this thing out in the nation's capital, if there is a time where he wants to ask out, that no-trade clause could wind up limiting Washington's flexibility in a deal.

But setting that aside, Beal's comments and outlook are admirable right now. He doesn't want to take the easy way out and force his way to a superteam, but instead he wants to stay and win with the only NBA team he has ever known.

The hard part will be making that happen. The Wizards haven't won a playoff series since 2017 and haven't made it past the second round since the Bullets days. Beal has a flawed co-star in Kristaps Porzingis next to him and a changing supporting cast after several moves this offseason. Washington is hoping the selection of Johnny Davis will give Beal a backcourt partner for a long time.

We'll see how long Beal wants to stick with the Wizards if things don't turn around soon. But, for now, he's happy and will do his best to help Washington become a title contender.
