Wizards point guard Isaiah Thomas insists he’s 100% healthy again
Isaiah Thomas recently signed a new deal with the Washington Wizards, with the hope that the point guard can make a solid comeback and continue his upward trajectory in the NBA. After being derailed by multiple injuries during his stints with the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers, Thomas now says that he’s ready to move on, and is completely healthy.
Speaking to Alex Kennedy of Hoops Hype recently, Thomas says that for the first time in a long time, he feels completely healthy heading into a season. When asked at what point he felt like he was back to 100%, Thomas noted that it was during his brief time with the Denver Nuggets last year.
“During the season, I got back to 100 percent. I took my time and didn’t come back until February, and taking my time allowed me to get healthy. I didn’t play that much this year, so I don’t have much wear and tear on my body from this past year,” he said. “I didn’t play as much as I wanted to, but I just focused on continuing to work and continuing to build my body. Now, I feel good. I feel really good. This summer, I’m focusing on strengthening my legs back up and getting my power and explosiveness back. I’ll be ready once the season starts. That’s all I’m focused on. I’m getting there and it’s going to take some time, but I’m getting there. I feel great.”
Thanks to the minimal playing time Thomas received in Denver, it enabled him to reset and focus on rehabbing and getting healthy.
While he obviously would have liked to play more, Thomas can now head into the summer and work harder than he has in the past, with his eyes set on helping the Wizards remain contentious in a suddenly very wide open NBA.
