Clearly, it's going to be challenging for John Wall to escape questions about whether he wants to be traded from the Washington Wizards.

At a charity event on Tuesday in D.C., Wall was repeatedly asked about his future with the franchise that drafted him No. 1 overall in 2010. Wall chose not to take the bait:

Of course, John Wall could simply be trying to avoid distracting from the cause by discussing his basketball career at a charity event. Still, this is somewhat ominous.

On Nov. 20, Wall reportedly clarified to the Wizards that he would, in fact, like to be traded. The Houston Rockets and Wizards were engaged in trade talks involving Russell Westbrook, but those have reportedly stalled.

However, on Monday, Wizards general manager Tommy Sheppard pushed back on reports that John Wall had demanded a trade.

“No, he didn't request [a trade],” Sheppard said. “John and I talk pretty much once every other day. And [I've] been to many of his workouts throughout the summer, we have always been on the same page, same wavelength.”

“There's no issues with John and I. There's no issues with John and the Wizards. There's no issue with anybody.”

Wall has averaged 19.0 points and 9.2 assists per game and made five All-Star teams in his decade in Washington, but he hasn't played since midway through the 2018-19 season after suffering a torn Achilles while recovering from a left heel injury.

Considering his health history at 30 years old and the three years and $132 million left on his contract, John Wall may need to take the floor for the Wizards next to Bradley Beal and show the league what he can still do in order to gin up his own trade market. Beal has also been involved in trade rumors, but Washington wants to see its star duo take the floor again.
