Rui Hachimura of the Washington Wizards wants everyone to know that racism towards Asians is real. The 23-year-old, who was born in Toyama Prefecture in Japan, opened up on social media recently as he addressed the racist remarks being thrown at his younger brother Aren Hachimura.

Aren, who like Hachimura plays hoops as a varsity player for Tokai University in Japan, recently posted an image on his Twitter account of one of the many hate messages he's been receiving. In Japanese, he said someone told him they were “born by mistake” and that he “should die.”

“Some people say that there is no racism in Japan, but there are people who make racist remarks like this. I don't think it's a problem that can be exposed, but I would like you to take an interest in the issue of racial discrimination once again.”

Hachimura was quick to console his 21-year-old brother. The second-year forward for the Wizards replied to Aren's tweet, saying he gets these types of messages daily as well.

Both Hachimura brothers are of Japanese descent and are half-Beninese. According to their tweets, Rui gets hate in the United States for ‘not being American' while Aren gets hate in Japan for ‘not being Japanese'. When will we #StopAsianHate?

Despite the small wins with regards to the fight against social justice, it seems the world has taken 10 huge steps back after the recent senseless attacks on Asians. Rui Hachimura has been a little more vocal these days in denouncing racism but he sure can't do it alone.
