Washington Wizards guard Russell Westbrook is usually a good finisher at the ring. But against the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday, the former league MVP air-balled a wide-open layup.

Whenever Russell Westbrook is on the break, it almost always is an easy two points. That's unless Westbrook's athleticism gets the better out of him.

But in the possession below, Russell Westbrook simply made a blunder. Not only did he waste Bradley Beal's sharp pass, but he embarrassed himself by hitting all air on a lay-up.

Even Russell Westbrook knew that he messed up.

It's difficult to tell what happened. Perhaps Russell Westbrook was going for the dunk but changed his mind mid-air? Or maybe in the first place, Westbrook didn't get enough lift to slam one down? Who knows? All we know now is that Westbrook might be in the latest episode of Shaqtin' A Fool.

Despite the blunder, everyone knows how great of a finisher Russell Westbrook is. That airball layup will definitely be outshined by his legion of nasty finishes at the ring, his tenacious driving lay-ups to the hoop, among others. Not to mention the array of NBA records he has especially the triple-doubles. And of course, that coveted MVP trophy which is only given to the elite of the elite.

What stings is that Russell Westbrook was recently praised by Damian Lillard of the Portland Trail Blazers, in the midst of another memorable encounter between the two when Washington visited the Northwest a few days ago:

“If I had to say I had an arch nemesis, it would probably be Russ [Westbrook], because when me and Russ play, we going after each other,” Lillard said in an Instagram Live with Fat Joe. “It’s been that way every time we’ve played since I’ve been in the NBA. Eight straight years of just me and him going at each other.”
