Washington Wizards head coach Scott Brooks told local reporters on Wednesday “it's pretty safe to say” center Dwight Howard won't play again this season.

Howard only played in nine games this season. He suffered a back injury which required surgery.

In the nine games he played in with the Wizards, Dwight Howard averaged 12.8 points and 9.2 rebounds per contest while shooting 62.3 percent from the field and 60.4 percent from the free-throw line. Washington was 4-5 with Howard in the lineup.

Howard, 33, signed a two-year, $10.9 million contract with the Wizards last summer. He made $5,337,000 this season and has a player-option worth $5,603,850 for next season.

The former All-NBA big man will likely pick up that player option since he only played in nine games in 2018-19.

This entire Wizards season has been a nightmare from start to finish. Before the season started, fans in the nation's capital were excited about Howard, John Wall and Bradley Beal teaming up and leading the team to the postseason.

The three stars shared the floor for only 209:23 this season.

Washington is going to miss the playoffs this year for the first time since 2016. Wall's supermax extension kicks in next season, but he could miss the entire season after tearing his Achilles tendon by slipping at his house.
