The Washington Wizards are assessing all of their options ahead of Thursday's trade deadline, but the latest update on star shooting guard Bradley Beal could impact their decision to buy or sell. According to NBA insider Marc Stein, Beal's wrist injury is undergoing further evaluation, and the team has not ruled surgery off the table, though they're hopeful he can avoid going under the knife.

Beal is set to miss his fifth consecutive game on Thursday as a result of the ligament issue in his left wrist. The Wizards have gone 1-3 during the four-game stretch Beal has been absent, with all three losses coming by no less than a 14-point margin. If he can't suit up against Brooklyn, his next chance to take the court will likely come Saturday against the Kings, a couple days after the trade deadline.

This update is a huge blow for a middling Wizards team that has fallen to 11th place in the East amid their recent woes. The Wizards have lost eight of their last 10 games, and at 24-29 they find themselves one game behind the Atlanta Hawks for the final play-in spot in the conference.

Washington is reportedly considering “various treatment options” for Beal's wrist, though surgery will likely remain on the table as a last resort. Getting Beal back quickly remains a priority for the Wizards if they want any chance of making the playoffs.

Beal has been far and away the best player on the Wizards in 2021-22. The 28-year-old is averaging 23.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 6.6 assists per game this season. He's shooting 45.1% from the field, and 30.3% from beyond the arc.
