Davis Bertans has been one of the many potential trade targets by this upcoming Feb. 6 trade deadline, but the Washington Wizards sniper is unlikely to be dealt in the coming weeks.

According to John Hollinger of The Athletic, the Wizards have no intention of trading their 6-foot-10 marksman and plan to re-sign him, as new general manager Tommy Sheppard hinted weeks ago.

“One name I doubt you’ll hear on the trade market: Davis Bertans. Some have speculated that Washington’s deep-bombing stretch forward could be on the market ahead of his unrestricted free agency, but all signals indicate the Wizards intend to re-sign the Latvian forward – who, at 27, is still young enough to be part of Washington’s next iteration,” wrote Hollinger.

The Wizards were fortunate to strike a three-team deal for Bertans this past summer, considering the San Antonio Spurs had every intention to keep him, had they not agreed to terms with Marcus Morris. As fate would have it, Morris would turn his back on that agreement and ink a one-year deal with the New York Knicks, leaving the Spurs without one of their best sharpshooters.

Washington has greatly benefitted from this, as Bertans is putting up career-high numbers with a better opportunity, near-doubling his scoring average with 15.4 points and 4.9 rebounds this season.

The Latvian marksman is among the 10 most-accurate 3-point shooters in the league, shooting 43.4% from deep this season while canning them at the fourth-highest rate.

While many view Davis Bertans as a strong stretch-four weapon, no team values him more than Washington, who intend to make him a part of their future as they rebuild.
