The departure of Liz Cambage from the Australian national team in 2021 shocked many WNBA fans. Cambage was one of the best women's basketball players in the world. Her sudden departure left a gaping hole in the women's basketball program. Recently, though, the world learned of a rather dark reason for this departure.

A recent report by the Daily Telegraph revealed an unsavory incident between Liz Cambage and the Nigerian women's basketball team. During a closed-door scrimmage in 2021, the WNBA and new Los Angeles Sparks star allegedly went off on the Nigerian players. According to the members of the Nigerian team, Cambage called them “monkeys” and told them to “go back to their third-world country”.

Cambage would eventually apologize to the Nigerian team for the outburst a day later. However, many players from the roster didn't buy the WNBA star's apology. According to an anonymous player:

“Although she’s Australian we knew she was half Nigerian so before then it was like she was one of us,” she said. “That was another thing to cut deep, for her to do that and not show any remorse at all.”

WNBA fans will recall Cambage abruptly leaving the team in 2021. According to her back then, she left the team to take care of her mental health. However, even back then, there were already rumblings about Cambage's outburst, as it was also reported that the star got into an altercation against Nigeria. Now, the full details of said outburst has apparently been revealed.

As of the time of writing, Liz Cambage is yet to respond to these allegations. Stay tuned for more surrounding this subject.
