Randall Cobb has been a key piece of the Green Bay Packers' offense for years. He has always been viewed as one of the most underrated receivers in the league, but the hype has never grown. Part of the reason for that has been due to the fact that he has never truly been the team's top target.
Early on in his career and all the way up through last season, Jordy Nelson was viewed as Aaron Rodgers' favorite target. Cobb was the guy that was a “glue guy” for the Green Bay offense. Now, Davante Adams has taken over as the most talked about receiver on the Packers' roster.
There were rumors during the offseason that the Packers were considering trading or releasing Cobb. They were looking for ways to save some money, which ended up resulting in Nelson's departure from the team.
Looking ahead at the 2019 NFL offseason, Cobb is set to hit the open free agency market. He has tested it once, but ended up returning to the Packers. That may not be the case this time around.
All of that being said, which three teams would be ideal fits for Cobb this offseason in NFL free agency?
3. Washington Redskins
One team to keep an eye on when it comes to wide receivers this offseason could be the Washington Redskins. Randall Cobb would make a lot of sense for the Redskins, who are in major need of finding a legitimate possession receiver and potential No. 1 target.
Cobb may very well be the guy that can come in and help them fix their issues at the position.
Alex Smith took over as the starting quarterback in Washington this season. Unfortunately, he just went down with a gruesome season-ending leg injury. Washington would love to have him back under center at some point next season, but even if he isn't their quarterback, the Redskins need a guy like Cobb.
Some may only view him as a short-yardage guy, but Cobb has been a deep threat as well in his career. Just because the Packers don't use his entire skill-set doesn't mean he isn't capable of being a much better player than his numbers may suggest.
2. Kansas City Chiefs
This potential landing spot would be the most intriguing fit for Cobb. Patrick Mahomes and company have created one of the NFL's most dynamic offenses and Cobb could be yet another deadly playmaker for the Chiefs.
Kansas City may not be interested in spending any kind of meaningful money on another receiver. They are likely very comfortable with Tyreek Hill and Sammy Watkins. Adding Cobb to that receiving corps would make them more dangerous, but it could restrict them from pursuing big names at other positions.
Cobb would likely love the offense that Andy Reid and the Chiefs run. He would be able to make plays over the middle as well as down the field.
If the Chiefs are looking to upgrade their offense, Cobb might be a guy that they considering showing interest in.
1. Green Bay Packers
Finally, the Green Bay Packers are still the best fit for Cobb. He has missed some time this season with injury issues, but Rodgers trusts Cobb and the chemistry they have is hard to replace.
Cobb has taken a discount to remain in Green Bay before and it wouldn't be shocking to see him do it again.
Even though he isn't talked about as much as he deserves, Cobb loves the Packers' organization. Playing alongside a quarterback like Rodgers doesn't come around for every receiver and leaving that pairing would be tough. He may want a fresh start, but sticking in Green Bay is his best fit on paper.
Green Bay needs Cobb on the roster as well. Adams is a great No. 1 receiver, but Marquez Valdes-Scantling is not quite ready to step in as a No. 2. Cobb is needed to fill that role and general manager Brian Gutekunst will likely try to get Cobb back at the right price.
