Ever since the San Francisco 49ers drafted quarterback Trey Lance with the third overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the buzz has been about how things shake out with incumbent QB Jimmy Garoppolo.

Garoppolo spoke honestly about building a relationship with the 49ers' rookie QB. While he's clearly open to mentoring the young prospect, he has no plans of forcing the issue in trying to make it happen.

“The relationship between me and Trey, I think will just happen naturally,” Garoppolo said on the 49ers' incoming rookie. “It's not something that you want to force too much. You don't want to make it fake. It's just things will happen and that stuff takes time. But I think it's just one of those situations where you don't want to go out of your normalcy and do something that's not you. So, I just let things happen and take it from there.”

It feels like just yesterday that Jimmy Garoppolo was dubbed by some as the heir apparent to potential NFL GOAT Tom Brady on the New England Patriots. He's now entering his fifth season with the 49ers, with his own potential replacement waiting in the wings.
