The San Francisco 49ers have been bitten by the injury bug to start the 2020 NFL season. Unfortunately, their health has taken a turn for the worst in Week 2 versus the New York Jets.
Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and running back Raheem Mostert have both been ruled out for the rest of the game, per ESPN's Field Yates:
The 49ers have ruled out QB Jimmy Garoppolo (ankle) and RB Raheem Mostert (knee) OUT for the game.

Garoppolo injured his right ankle while being sacked by defensive tackle Quinnen Williams early on. Although he still managed to finish the first half completing 14-of-16 passes for 131 yards and two touchdowns, he was unable to come out of the locker room for the start of the third quarter. Filling in under center for Garoppolo will be backup quarterback Nick Mullens.
Mostert has been ruled out with a knee injury following a productive day in his own right after kicking things off with an 8o-yard touchdown on the first play from scrimmage. He would finish with 92 yards on eight carries to go with two receptions for 15 yards until he was sidelined. The 49ers will now be relying on a combination of Jerrick McKinnon and Tevin Coleman to carry the load in the backfield.
Aside from the notable voids on offense, San Francisco was also dealt some critical blows on defense. They will be without two of their most key pieces along the defensive line with Nick Bosa and Solomon Thomas ruled out. While they may be in control of securing their first win of the season, it is safe to say that it has come at a heavy price for the reigning NFC champs.
