Could the Jimmy Garoppolo era in San Francisco be coming to an end soon? That could very well be the case with the 49ers tumbling down the standings in recent weeks.

According to the latest report from NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Trey Lance could take over real soon if Jimmy Garoppolo doesn't turn things around in a hurry in San Francisco.

Via Rapoport:

If Garoppolo continues to struggle, Lance's snaps should only increase after he shows he's completely healthy. Sources believe Lance will be the starter at some point this season and, if the losses continue, that sounds like it will be sooner rather than later.

Through Week 2, things were looking up for Jimmy G and the Niners, who started off the season with two solid wins. They were well on their way to 3-0 had it not been for Aaron Rodgers going god mode for the Green Bay Packers in the game's final :37 seconds in Week 3.

Ever since then, the 49ers have lost their last four games and have stumbled into a subpar 2-4 record. With Trey Lance seen as the QB of the future in the Bay Area, the writing is suddenly on the wall sooner than expected for Jimmy Garoppolo unless he manages to find his footing once more.
