After improving tremendously during their 7-8-1 2018 season, the Cleveland Browns are ready to make a playoff push after an eventful offseason headlined by the acquisition of superstar wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. Cleveland added plenty of impact players and is now one of the most talented rosters in the league, meaning there isn't room for everyone.

Here are five players who must have a good training camp and preseason if they hope to remain with the team.

5. Greg Joseph, Kicker

The importance of kicking in the NFL has increased in recent years, and the Browns know its worth better than most. In 2017, they drafted Arizona State's Zane Gonzalez in the seventh round.

Gonzalez was one of the most prolific college kickers of all time, and seemed primed to have a long NFL career. He started out his rookie season struggling, but improved toward the end of the year. Unfortunately, that improvement didn't carry over into 2018. He played just two games for Cleveland before being cut, going 2-for-5 on field goal and also missed two extra points. His misses cost the Browns wins against Pittsburgh and New Orleans, which, had they come out on top in just one of those matches, would have put them into the playoff picture heading into the final week of the season.

Gonzalez was replaced by Greg Joseph, who went 17-20 and connected on 25 of his 29 extra point tries. Most fans weren't comfortable with Joseph heading into 2019, but the prevailing thought was that the Browns would bring in an undrafted free agent or two to compete with Joseph.

Instead, Cleveland made the surprising selection of Austin Seibert in the fifth round, which immediately put Joseph's roster spot in jeopardy. Seibert made a ridiculous 87 of 88 extra points last season, but was not reliable outside of 40 yards. Seibert's status of being a draft pick and also being able to punt if needed gives him the advantage over Joseph in the coming preseason battle.

4. Damion Ratley, Wide Receiver

A sixth-round pick last year, Ratley failed to make much of an impact during his rookie season, catching just 13 passes for 144 yards. UDFA Derrick Willies outperformed Ratley, and with free agent signings Jaelen Strong and Damon Sheehy-Guiseppi competing for the last receiver spot, Ratley may be the odd man out. He could stick around on the practice squad if not claimed by another team.

3. Seth DeValve, Tight End

A 2016 fourth-round pick, DeValve has shown very good route running ability and gets open well, but his role was marginalized last season. After being targeted 58 times in 2017, he was thrown to only seven times in 2018.

With David Njoku entrenched as the starter and Demetrius Harris signed in free agency, DeValve is the third-string tight end at this point, but his job is far from safe. He was injured for the majority of training camp last year so he must stay healthy and improve his blocking in order to stick around.

2. Desmond Harrison, Offensive Line

The retirement of Joe Thomas left Cleveland with a gaping hole at left tackle for 2018, and they originally attempted to fill it with UDFA Desmond Harrison. After being dismissed from Texas due to off field issues, Harrison dominated at West Georgia. He possessed elite athleticism but his hand usage needed a lot of improvement and he also needed to gain weight and strength. He started the first eight games of the season and wasn't very good. He missed a game due to illness and rode the bench for the rest of the season.

This offseason, the Browns signed Kendall Lamm and drafted Drew Forbes, another small-school athletic marvel. Harrison must show he has significantly improved since last season, or he could be cut. He will turn 26 in October, which doesn't help his case.

1. Chad Thomas, Defensive End

A third-round pick in 2018, Thomas is the prototype edge defender from a physical perspective. He stands 6-foot-5 and 280 pounds and is a great athlete. The problem is, he's super raw and there are concerns that he is more focused on his successful music career than improving as a football player.

On a team that lacked defensive line depth, Thomas was active for just four games, and played only 22 total snaps. He is a very talented player, but it's fair to question whether he will ever realize it, or if he even wants to. Players like Anthony Zettel or Wyatt Ray will gladly take Thomas's roster spot.
