The AEW mid-card is absolutely loaded. It has former champions, promising young upstarts, and a performer by the name of Wardlow who has openly declared his desire to run through whoever gets in his way in the relentless pursuit of the TNT Championship.

And yet, just because AEW has more performers than spots doesn't mean Tony Khan and company shouldn't pursue interesting performers without a home promotion when they are on the open market. If anything, the sheer volume of talented performers both on the roster and in the wrestling world today should make pursuing options, especially babyfaces on per-appearance deals, all the more intriguing until a performer or two finds the right mix of fan support and in-ring mastery.

Fortunately, there is one performer who perfectly fits that bill who the promotion won't have to look too far to scout, as, after wrestling under contract performer Wheeler Yuta in NJPW's Best of the Super Juniors earlier this month, is set to wrestle an X Division match alongside Bullet Club member – and X Division Champion – Ace Austin, plus performers both TK and AEW fans already know very well in Jack Evans, Mike Bayley, Trey Miguel, and Kevin King.

Put on something red and get your Taco Bell ready, folks; things are about to get saucy.

Alex Zayne would be a fan favorite in AEW's mid-card.

Over the past 12 months, Alex Zayne has wrestled in over 20 different promotions, from Impact, to Ring of Honor, Warrior, GCW, New Japan – Strong and proper – and even for WWE, where he wrestled on 205 Live and a single episode of NXT as Ari Sterling. He's wrestled in 32 matches, including 12 as part of the NJPW Best of the Super Juniors, and has earned rave reviews for his red outfits, his eccentric style, and A Day To Remember entrance music, which perfectly fits into the ‘Hot Topic-across-from-a-mall-foodcourt-Taco Bell-vibe' that he's been cultivating for the better part of a year now.

Zayne can fly high, deliver chops, and take down even the biggest of foes with his signature moves like the crunch wrap, the cinnamon twist, and the taco driver, which he has used to take down all sorts of different foes from across the independent wrestling landscape, from everyone from Jonathan Gresham to Starboy Charlie, Ninja Mack, and even Lio Rush.

With his BotSJ's run in NJPW officially over, Zayne has returned to the states and has a very interesting match waiting just over the horizon in his return to Impact Wrestling, where he will be the final entrant in the Slammiversary edition of The Ultimate X match, where he will challenge fellow Super Junior and the newest member of Bullet Club, Ace Austin, for the promotion's high-flying undercard belt.

Needless to say, every wrestling promoter, including Tony Khan, should have their virtual tickets ready for the highlight match of Slammiversary, as Zayne could very well steal the show and potentially cap off his incredible buzz with a star-making performance on a major stateside Pay-Per-View.

Considering AEW's current relationship with NJPW, getting into the “Sauce God” business could be a tasty time indeed.

In theory, AEW doesn't need any more talent. They have a roster of 100 performers deep and employ even more like Bear Country and Anthony Greene, who get steady work but aren't officially under full-time contract. Still, as wrestlers like Joey Janella and Jack Evans leave, the promotion needs to find performers who can take their place, and in that regard, Alex Zayne would be one heck of an upgrade, as he already has all of the presentations in place to become a big-time national star; all he needs is an opportunity to showcase his stuff.
