Will Ospreay has a lot going for himself heading into AEW‘s Forbidden Door.

He won the IWGP USA Heavyweight Championship at NJPW Dominion, has been booked like an absolute star on AEW television, and, with his Forbidden Door opponent, Orange Cassidy, officially set, he can finally start to prepare for what should be one of the most, um, unique matches of his career.

But that wasn't the only match the multi-promotional champion had to prepare for in June. No, as you may or may not know, Ospreay also entered the night as the Warrior Wrestling Champion and had to defend the strap in a War of Attrition match at Warrior Wrestling 23; an uber intriguing match type where two teams of four compete to a pinfall, then the four split into two tag teams, before the winning unit faces off one-on-one in singles competition until a winner, and thus, a champion, is crowned.

Confusing? Maybe a little bit, Warrior commentator Veda Scott certainly had a tough time figuring out how to identify the teams, and things got all the more complicated once another promotion staple, the Contender's Medallion held by KC Navarro came into play, but ultimately, the match's results couldn't be any more simple: After an incredible showing down the stretch, Ospreay watched as AEW wrestler Brian Pillman was pinned by Navarro with a little help from fellow AEW performer Brian Cage to take away his championship without being pinned.

If Ospreay's impressive run in Warrior is over, this was one heck of a way to close that chapter as he looked like a star for the better part of an hour, iced out more than a few competitors with his signature move, the hidden blade, and didn't even have to eat a pin against the 5-foot-5, pink-haired Navarro, not that that would have diminished his legacy one bit.
