New head coach Kalen DeBoer has some huge shoes to fill in Alabama. Expectations are always sky high for Crimson Tide football, especially following the historic Nick Saban dynasty. However, it appears that coach Saban has continued to offer assistance to DeBoer through the transition process.

Kalen DeBoer recently sat down for an interview with sports radio host Jim Rome. The pair discussed a variety of topics, including Nick Saban. DeBoer gushed about the former Alabama coach and has nothing but good things to say about him.

“He's amazing,” DeBoer said. “He's been so respectful in every way.”

DeBoer noted that Saban's continued presence around the football program has been helpful for him and for players. Nearly all of the players in the program committed because they wanted to play for coach Saban.

“He's just been so respectful, trying to allow me to make it mine,” DeBoer added on Saban.

DeBoer also said that he will probably have some questions for Saban as the team approaches the start of the 2024 season. He sounded confident that Saban could answer anything he needed to know.

“He's just down the road. Of course, I've been over there a couple times, talked with him on the phone as well. He's just a great resource.”

DeBoer has a chance to continue Alabama's winning ways. While he may be new to the SEC, DeBoer has been a successful college coach in his own right. He is coming off a successful run with the University of Washington, which included a Pac-12 championship and a trip to the national championship game in January.

DeBoer helped recruit a talented roster in Washington, which saw several players taken in the early rounds of the 2024 NFL Draft. He will now have Alabama's incredible scouting pipeline to work with moving forward.

Nick Saban is without a doubt the best college football coach of all time.

Saban turned the Crimson Tide into a truly unstoppable force during his 17 seasons with the program. He achieved an incredible level of success with the program and won several championships.

Saban's career coaching record is 292-71-1, which is good for sixth all-time in FBS career wins. During his time at Alabama, Saban went 201-29 in 17 seasons. Incredibly, Saban did not have a single losing season during his 28 years as a college head football coach.

Saban coached a total of four Heisman Trophy winners and 49 first-round NFL draft picks.

Saban has an expansive coaching tree, with several prominent NCAA coaches having worked under Saban at one time or another. These head coaches include:

  • Kirby Smart – Georgia
  • Lane Kiffin – Ole Miss
  • Steve Sarkisian – Texas
  • Dan Lanning – Oregon
  • Mario Cristobal – Miami
  • Billy Napier – Florida

  • Charles Huff – Marshall

His other assorted accomplishments include:

  • Seven national championships
  • Eight College Football Playoff appearances in 10 years
