Today, New Orleans Pelicans big man Anthony Davis is not a happy man. The All NBA Teams were officially announced earlier today, and he did not make it. This was a huge loss for Davis, because it was his last opportunity to make an extra $24 million by qualifying for at least one of three things.

The NBA has a clause called the “Rose Rule clause” in which a player becomes eligible to receive a 5th year extension to his contract at the maximum amount, if he qualifies.

Qualifications for this clause are winning the league MVP award, being voted as a starter for the NBA All-Star Game, or be named to an All-NBA Team. Davis, who averaged 24.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per game, missed every category and thus cannot activate the option of a 5th year extension to his contract.

All is not lost since Davis' contract extension is in the ballpark of $145 million, which starts next season. However, the extra $24 million that would've been included is lost for good. The qualifications are partially performance based and partially based on the opinions of the media. May people believe this clause is something the NBA should consider revising.

Davis may have gotten his money had injuries not derailed his season; his production was on par with most of the players named to the All-NBA teams, he just couldn't stay on the court.
