Chicago Bears coach Matt Nagy has been very impressed with what he has seen of the defense so far in training camp. Last year the Bears defense was strong but a change was made at coordinator with Chuck Pagano coming in this offseason and there were some question marks about how they would react.

“They’re way past where I thought they were going to be,” Nagy said via the Bears' team website. “I’ve seen a lot in a good way.”

One of the big reasons the team hasn't lost much of a step is because most of the core from last year including linebacker Khalil Mack, safety Eddie Jackson, and cornerback Kyle Fuller are back.

Nagy knows what those guys did last year was impressive but he is trying to teach them that this is a new team and a new year and they have to start at over on the first floor.

“I love what we did last year, but that was last year,” Nagy said. This is a new era for our team and for this season coming up. These players have high expectations. I think for them, as long as they listen to what Chuck and his staff are doing, I think you guys are going to see some pretty good stuff.

“Is it going to happen Week 1? I don’t know. Hopefully it does. I really feel good with where they’re at.”

If the defense can play like they did last year, and the offense continues to improve this team believes they can win a Super Bowl,
