Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Pace confirmed what everyone already assumed, it's going to be an open competition between Mitchell Trubisky and Nick Foles for the starting quarterback job.

“We were able to dig in on FA, make the Bears a better football team. I can tell you right now, we're ready for everything. Quarterback position. It's been a focus for us. We've talked to both players, and the way we view this, it's an open competition.”

Even with the revised contract there was no doubt with how much money Nick Foles make. In turn, he wasn't coming in to take the bench. That isn't to say he might not lose the competition and be the backup, but it was never the idea that he wouldn't have a shot to compete for it with the Bears.

Bears coach Matt Nagy said they have reached out to Trubisky to let him know it will be an open completion, and it's something he is embracing.

“You could feel how much of a competitor Mitch is. He’s embracing it and he’s excited to get back to work.”

Nagy also said the team is going to be very transparent with how the competition is going, but he wasn't clear if that will be with the media, or with just the team.

Maybe Foles coming in will light a fire under Trubisky and he will finally live up to the expectations that come with being a first-round draft pick.
