Buffalo Bills linebacker Matt Milano will be out for the rest of the season after undergoing surgery to repair a broken fibula.

Milano was carted off the field in Sunday's 27-23 loss to the New York Jets, and it seemed as though his return to the field this season was unlikely due to the severity of the injury.

And now head coach Sean McDermott has confirmed that Milano will be unavailable for the remainder of the season, according to Joe Buscaglia of WKBW in Buffalo.

McDermott also went on to add more details regarding Milano's eventual return, and it appears to be a positive development in terms of him back on the field in the offseason.

Milano was having a solid year for the Bills in racking up 52 total tackles and 78 combined tackles, with the second-year pro out of Boston College also recording three interceptions.

He finished with 50 combined tackles in his rookie season while picking up an interception and two forced fumbles.

He's played a role in helping the Bills find some success at times this season, even if it has ultimately resulted in a 4-9 record to this point in the year. But Buffalo has shown signs of its potential, especially when it comes to the dual-threat ability of quarterback Josh Allen.

McDermott's squad will try to finish the season on a strong note, with home games against the Detroit Lions and Miami Dolphins, and a road game against the New England Patriots still on the schedule.
