Carmelo Anthony has had a rollercoaster of a career over the last few years. He went from a potent scorer with the New York Knicks to being out of the league completely, all before he found a home in Rip City with the Portland Trail Blazers.

Melo carved out a significant role for himself in Portland last season, averaging 15.4 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. Carmelo was a free agent this offseason, but he decided to stay with the Blazers on a one-year deal.

Before committing to the Blazers, however, there were rumors of Carmelo returning to the Knicks. It would have been nice to see a familiar face back in MSG for the 2020-21 NBA season, but it really wouldn't make much sense.

The Knicks are a rebuilding franchise, so an aging forward who doesn't play defense isn't exactly ideal. This move also makes no sense for Carmelo. At 36 years old, Carmelo should only be looking to sign with contenders. The Knicks are the furthest thing from that.

Fr what it's worth, Carmelo refuted the rumors and explained that the had no real interest in returning to New York.

“At this point, it wasn’t really a lot [of consideration],’’ the Blazers forward said, per SNY TV. “The Knicks were making moves and were trying to figure out the direction they wanted to go in. They weren’t done making moves. I’m sure they have a plan. I don’t think me coming in and trying to mess their plan up was good for either party.”

It shouldn't come as a surprise that Carmelo Anthony didn't sign with the Knicks, but it would have been nice to Melo back in the blue and orange.
