This year’s iteration of the All-Star Weekend, which Damian Lillard was a part of, is not only a celebration of the best basketball players in the world, but it is also a commemoration to the life Bryant led on and off the court. He was a consummate competitor, and his influence can be found on many of the league’s stars today.
Damian Lillard himself got in touch with Kobe a lot of times during the early years of his career, so the untimely passing of the future Hall of Famer was a shock that he didn’t take kindly to. ClutchPoints’ Riana Mercado recalled the impact the tragedy had on him and the world of basketball as a whole.
“It’s the last thing in the world you think you’re going to wake up and see. And to see that, it’s a huge loss for the world, a huge loss for the game of basketball, but most importantly for his family … There’s definitely going to be a hole in this game going forward that can’t be replaced.”
This performance isn’t the only noteworthy thing for Damian Lillard this weekend. The star of the Blazers also got engaged to his longtime girlfriend Kay’La Hanson.
