The Portland Trail Blazers will start veteran small forward Trevor Ariza, whom they acquired from the Sacramento Kings in the Kent Bazemore trade.

Ariza spoke to the Blazers media for the first time on Wednesday and said head coach Terry Stotts told him he’s going to be starting:

The Blazers are 19-26 on the season after defeating the Golden State Warriors on Monday. They are in 10th place in the Western Conference standings.

Ariza played in 32 games this season for the Kings. He averaged 6.0 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists while shooting 38.8 percent from the field, 35.2 percent from beyond the arc and 77.8 percent from the free-throw line.

The Blazers will start Damian Lillard, CJ McCollum, Ariza, Carmelo Anthony and Hassan Whiteside for the rest of the season. After making it to the Western Conference Finals last season, Portland has been inconsistent in 2019-20. The Blazers are hoping Ariza is the final piece the team needs to get back in the playoff picture out West.

Lillard scored a whopping 61 points on Monday against the Warriors. He just continues to cement himself as one of the greatest point guards of all-time. Lillard is now averaging 27.9 points per game on the season.

As is the case every season, the Blazers will ultimately go as far as Lillard and McCollum can take them.
