Portland Trail Blazers head coach Terry Stotts has been rewarded with a contract extension after leading the team to the Western Conference Finals this season.

Stotts led the Blazers to a third-place finish in the Western Conference with a 53-29 record in the regular season. With him calling the shots, Portland also made its deepest playoff run since 2000, as they reached the conference finals after making quick work of the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first round and surviving the second-seeded Denver Nuggets in the second.

The Blazers were then swept by the Warriors.

Stotts has been the coach of the Blazers since 2012, and under him, the team has been a constant playoff contender. Although they haven't had much success in the playoffs under him, the team has constantly shown commitment to the veteran coach.

The Blazers will now shift their focus in the offseason, where they will obviously look to improve the roster, with the hopes of making another legitimate shot at the championship next season.

Over the past couple of years, there has been a lot of talk about how the Blazers should blow their current roster up and begin a rebuild. Their early exits in the playoffs over the past three years prior to this one has led many to believe that the problem is either with the coach or with the backcourt tandem of Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum. However, the team's management is clearly showing no signs of giving up on the team's core just yet.

The Blazers are being patient. While every other team is jockeying for position to build a superteam this summer, they remain committed to what they have built. They are a few solid pieces away from their goal. They just have to make the right decisions this summer.
